  • About AMAR SEVA SANGAM

Padma Shri S. Ramakrishnan established Amar Seva Sangam in 1981 after he met with an accident during a Naval recruitment exercise and became quadriplegic. The Secretary, CA S. Sankara Raman, also wheelchair-bound due to Muscular Dystrophy, a Chartered Accountant, joined the Sangam in 1992.
Their dream is to establish a Valley for the Disabled in a 30+ acre land at Ayikudy, where Amar Seva Sangam will be a centralized resource Centre with PWDs as service users for a just and equitable society for persons with disabilities.
Despite progress made by India on several fronts, people with disabilities still struggle for a level playing ground and are unable to realise their full potential. Lack of an enabling environment and access to opportunities are their major barriers. Making society understand their abilities and creating ecosystems that would make People with disabilities part of the system will make them contributory towards the overall welfare of the society.
Amar Seva Sangam reaches out to over 15,000 Persons with Disabilities in more than 900 villages in 4 districts of southern Tamil Nadu. This holistic rehabilitation program is GPS technology enabled, carried-out by community level workers and monitored and administered by program managers to deliver high quality, high fidelity solutions to people with disabilities. “Deepam” stands for “Development through Education and Empowerment of the Poor and the Marginalised”. Volunteering his services with the Government Schools is one of the priorities of MANGALADEEPAM. MANGALADEEPAM - Infrastructure highlights

Within just about three and half years of establishing the Trust, inspite of being a new geographical location for him, R. BALASUBRAMANIAN , Founder of MANGALADEEPAM, has facilitated till now Basic Infrastructure in thirteen Tamil Nadu Governmentowned Schools. The Schools are in Tirusulam, Pozhichalur, Nanganallur, Vengambakkam, Keerapakkam, Karapakkam, Arakkonam, Chromepet, Asthinapuram, Kayarembedu, Vennangupattu and Otteri Extention. Out of these, Toilet Blocks are in 11 Schools, a mid Day Meal Kitchen Block in one School and a Mid Day Meal Kitchen Block with a Dining shed in yet another school. The total constructed infrastructure area works out to 3636 sq.ft. and 32000 Litres of Septic Tank..
From the Conceptualization of the idea in each School, after identifying the Schools, doing a SWOT analysis of the School, doing a feasibility and assessment study for the Project, getting statutory approvals, submission of proposals to our Patrons till the implementation and handing over the infrastructure to the School Leadership, it is MANGALADEEPAM all the way. A complete initiative for each Project which addresses every concern of the potential Sponsor, MANGALADEEPAM handles these assignments with ease.
MANGALADEEPAM’S USP lies in the fact that it spends time with the sponsors, construction team and the School management to ensure a closer coordination so that the project initiated is completed on time and at the end of the day all the stake holders, the School, construction company, the sponsors and the facilitators MANGALADEEPAM are placed in a win win situation .
MANGALADEEPAM keeps in constant touch with Schools where it has facilitated the Toilet Blocks to ensure that Blocks are maintained well. MANGALADEEPAM believes it is equally important to take care of the Assets so created so that benefits continue for a longer period of time to the Society
MANGALADEEPAM is also into several other initiatives in Govt Schools for elevating overall standards of the Schools and Students. Virtual Spoken English Classes and Programmes for Teachers during covid from all our connected Schools, Distribution of refurbished Laptops to all Schools, etc.et.
Recently, a Division of MANGALADEEPAM, viz, ANUSHA BALA CENTRE OF LEARNING was inaugurated. The purpose of this Centre will be to help in building competencies and abilities of the Students in our connected Schools and in our connected Night Schools. While MANGALADEEPAM will focus on building infrastructure in our connected Government Schools, the Anusha Bala Centre of Learning will focus on ability building. Thus we expect the development in the Schools to be complete and inclusive.
MANGALADEEPAM has also facilitated two free Mega Eye Camps in 2021, one in Nandambakkam near Sairam Engineering College through their NSS and the other in Tirusulam.
